Today’s Pay It Forward Giveaway benefits The Lantern House. A faith-based non-profit community organization started by some of my friends and neighbors to promote creativity and the arts in the local Athens area. Their events that I have been able to attend have impressed me by the large, energized and supportive community they have fostered in a short time and the professionalism and thoughtfulness that they demonstrate. In a time when transience, screens, and large-scale consumer-culture make deep conversation between artists and patrons rare and difficult, The Lantern House helps provide support and opportunity. One of the best aspects in my mind is the wide array of disciplines and interests represented by those involved, all interacting and benefiting one another in surprising ways. Discussing art and creativity with these folks in a posture of gratitude and curiosity has been enriching for me and I’m thankful for their efforts. I will be leading a break-out session for their upcoming conference in December. If you are in town and interested, I hope to see you there!
